Sistemas de computación

IT services provided by the Galician Supercomputing Center

Service description

This service allows the housing of a service that is owned by the user at the DPC of CESGA. This service is oriented to users with a medium to high technical knowledge profile. As the server is not administered by CESGA, any activity on the system, except that of problems that may arise during the provision of service, will be charged for complete hours at established prices.

It is necessary to keep in mind that servers require periodic maintenance. Because of this, if the end user does not have the capacity and/or knowledge to do it by himself or herself, then the user should contract the support service or delegate the task to another person or company.

The housed server will have an automatic monitoring service to alert the user of possible problems of loss of connectivity.

The server housing service can be complemented with additional services (backups, detailed monitoring services, etc.).

The conditions included in standard housing are:

  • redundant connectivity to RECETGA/RedIris/Internet,
  • uninterrupted power supply,
  • one (or more if needed) public IP address/es for access to /from the Internet,
  • total access by means of SSH or the Terminal Server to the corresponding server,
  • restricted physical access to the server,
  • controlled temperature and humidity,
  • support technician during the installation (8h),
  • (Optional) perimeter firewall,
  • (Optional) back-up managed by CESGA, and/or
  • (Optional) detailed monitoring of services.

Service request

This service is available for institutions that belong to the Galician University System (SUG), CSIC centres, R&D departments of institutions and/or public or private companies, and institutions and/or companies that participate in R&D&i activities with CESGA whenever they satisfy the adhesion criteria.

In order to request the service, complete the following Server Housing Service Form (Physical Server).

Rate

The service cost takes into account the physical space occupied in the housing storage cabinet, the electrical power consumption of the hardware and the heating ventilation and air conditioning associated with said hardware (cooling, uninterrupted power supply), switch ports, and a minimum of 8 hours of support provided by CESGA technicians.

In each case, a specific offer will be provided according to the particular project requirements and conditions.

Policies of use

The following link describes the general acceptable use policy and is binding for all contractors of this service. Consult this information in “User Support”.

Service description

Each division within a physical server is known as a virtual private server (VPS). Each one of these divisions is allocated with RAM memory, a CPU, a hard disk, and a network. Each physical server can host multiple virtual machines in these conditions. The user manages the virtual server as if it were a physical server and decides the programs that run on it. A virtual server guarantees part of the resources of a machine exclusively for it within a server shared with other users, approaching the concept of a dedicated server given that the rest of the users cannot consume the resources reserved for the first and vice versa.

This service considers the provision of a virtual server housed on CESGA’s virtualization platforms. This type of service is oriented to users with a medium-high technical profile. As the server is not administered by CESGA, any operation required on the system besides those problems that may arise during the provision of the service will be charged for complete hours at established prices.

It is necessary to keep in mind that servers require periodic maintenance. Because of this, if the end user does not have the capacity and/or knowledge to do it on their own, then it is advisable that she/he should contract the support service or delegate the task to another person or company.

The hosting server will have automatic monitoring that will alert of possible problems in the case of loss of connectivity.

Server hosting service can be complemented with additional services (back-ups, detailed services monitoring, etc..)

The conditions included in standard hosting are:

  • redundant connectivity to RECETGA/RedIris/Internet,
  • uninterrupted power supply,
  • one public IP address/es for access to /from the Internet,
  • external access by means of SSH,
  • restricted physical access to the server,
  • temperature and humidity controlled CPD,
  • support technician during the installation (8h)
  • (Optional) perimeter firewall,
  • (Optional) back-up managed by CESGA, and/or
  • (Optional) detailed monitoring of services

Service description

CESGA hosts portals and databases for university students or those related with the Information Society, for associated institutions, and those affiliated with RECETGA, thereby enabling more efficient and secure access.

To this end, CESGA puts servers for Web hosting at the disposal of users allowing the development of portals with the following characteristics:
– upload/download of archives by means of SFTP

– web platform based on LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP).

– enough disk space disk for mid-sized Webs, and the possibility to request more in the case that is it justified.

NOTE: The domain must be contracted by the user requesting the service.

Service description

Eduroam (abbreviation of education roaming) is the world-wide service for secure mobility developed for the academic and research community. The slogan Eduroam is: “open your laptop and you are connected”.

The service provides students, researchers, and staff of the participant institutions with connectivity to Internet through their own campus when they visit other participant institutions.
During the last years, technologies related to mobile access services have grown in importance from the point of view of the telephone, but also from the point of view of access to telematic services that requires a wireless connection to a network. In addition to the problem of establishing a wireless connection to the network (which is purely technical), other problems arise that are related to the management of mobile connections and the management of users that roam between organisations.

EDUROAM.ES is an initiative included in the RedIRIS Eduroam project. The main goal is to coordinate the initiatives of diverse organisations at a national level in order to achieve a unique mobility space in Spain. This unique mobility space consists of an ample group of organisations that, on the basis of a use policy and a series of technical and functional requirements, allows these users to roam between organisations and provides them with the mobile services that they may need. The last goal is that when roaming users arrive at another organization, they have a virtual work environment with connection to the Internet, access to services and resources of her or his source organisation, as well as access to services and resources of the host organisation in the most transparent way possible.

On the other hand, EDUROAM.ES it is part of the Eduroam initiative at an international level, funded by GEANT 3 and operated by several European research and academic networks and TERENA. This initiative expands the mobility space to the European academic envirronment through Europe Eduroam, and builds bridges with Eduroam Canada, Eduroam US, and Eduroam APAN (Asia and Pacific).

Service Request

This service is available for institutions that belong to the Galician University System (SUG), CSIC centres, R&D departments of institutions and/or public or private companies, and institutions and/or companies that participate in R&D activities with CESGA whenever they satisfy the adhesion criteria.
Eduroam service to end users (researchers and teachers) must be provided by the source institution for each user.

The adhesion of a Galician institution to the initiative should be established by completing the following Eduroam service request form. Once it is determined that the soliciting institution fulfills the adhesion criteria, CESGA will inform that institution of the media and configuration needed for it her to be integrated into the hierarchy of authentication used for the Eduroam service.

Coordination at the national level is provided by RedIRIS which, at the same time, is responsible for providing roaming at an international level through the radius hierarchy to which it is connected. Coordination at the regional level (Galicia) is provided by CESGA that is responsible for notifying RedIRIS of the inclusion of new institutions under the Galician regional hierarchy.

For more information please visit CESGA Eduroam.
